Western Telemark round trip
| From Vrådal, follow RV 38 by Vråliosen to Åmdals Verk Mines, a mining museum with an interesting collection based on copper mines, dating back to 1540. Guided walks in the old mines. Follow road 38 to Skafså and the Anne Grimdalen Memorial Collection: a farm yard from the Middle Ages and a sculpture museum exhibiting works of the great sculptress. The descent from Skafså towards Dalen features one of the finest views of Telemark. Dalen, 72 m above sea level, terminus of the Telemark Waterways. Follow RV 45 from Dalen to Eidsborg Stave Church, dating back to the 14th century, one of the two remaining stave churches of Telemark, and the Museum of West Telemark. By the church, a quarry where whetstone was excavated from the time jof the vikings to modern times. E134 from Høydalsmo to Morgedal, "Cradle of Modern Skiing" where "The Norwegian Ski Adventure Center", rendering the history of Norwegian skiing from the Stone Age to the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994, should be visited. RV 41 from Brunkeberg through the centre of Kviteseid back to Vrådal. Before climbing the hairpin curves turn left for a visit of the old Kviteseid church and the small local museum. Total tour is 110 km. |
